Public Biography
Dr. Burningham is an investigator at the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs (VA) Informatics, Decision-Enhancement and Analytic Sciences (IDEAS) Center. He also is employed within the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor. He is an informatician with expertise in the design and development of information displays that support quality improvement and clinical decision support. Further, Dr. Burningham has a broad background in public health, epidemiology, health services research, and database analytics. He enjoys using data science in developing informatics tools that can quantify adherence to more sophisticated clinical practice guidelines that are not easily operationalized from the EHR. He also has interests in user interface design, usability testing, optimization of backend data architecture, and in the development of risk assessment algorithms for disease prediction and management. Within the VA and University of Utah he co-directs the VERITAS data analytics group which focuses broadly on medication safety and comparative effectiveness research and also co-leads the Veteran Rural Health Resource Center (VRHRC)ñ Salt Lake City Data and Analytic Core (DAC).
