Nursing Informatics Innovators: Susan K. Newbold
Dr. Newbold is a Healthcare Informatics Consultant based in Franklin, TN.. She founded CARING, a large, geographically dispersed Nursing Informatics group in 1982. She conducted the first hospital workshop: Computers in Nursing Practice in 1983.
Susan created an award-winning nursing informatics course in 1995 and now conducts it as the Nursing Informatics Boot Camp. In addition Dr. Newbold teaches informatics from undergraduates to doctor of nursing practice student. She co-edited five books and has written numerous articles on informatics topics. Susan was a keynote speaker in the first nursing informatics conferences held in Taiwan and Singapore and has consulted in informatics in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovenia and Taiwan.
Dr. Newbold was named Outstanding Nurse Educator of the Year by the Maryland Nurses Association. Susan was awarded an Excellence in Teaching Award from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and the HIT Men-HIT Women award for improving patient care through health information technology.
Dr. Newbold is known for mentoring and educating nurses in informatics.
