Nursing Informatics Innovators: Virginia K. Saba
Dr. Saba, a nationally and internationally known pioneer of computer technology in nursing has for over 40 years, spearheaded the nursing informatics movement. She initiated academic technology programs and supported development of healthcare information technology systems including Clinical Care Classification (CCC) System. During her career served as a Nurse Officer, USPHS, providing national leadership and promoting technology in nursing practice. She served in academia receiving in 1997, Distinguished Scholar Title from Georgetown University where she integrated nursing technology in SON programs, facilities, and where she conducted federally funded research creating CCC System, National Nursing Standard. Also. While Dr Saba served at Uniformed Services University, she coordinated the initial Graduate Nursing Distance Learning Project with Veterans Administration. Currently, she serves on several national (ONC) healthcare standards committees for Meaningful Use initiatives. She is President/CEO of Sabacare Inc & CCC System integrating this nursing terminology into electronic healthcare documentation systems.
